Doyle Soil Consulting is passionate about landscape, geology, soils and hydrological processes. With more than 50 years of earth science experience between them, Robyn and Richard are icons in the sector and are known throughout Tasmania and Australia.
Robyns’ Statement of Capacity
Robyn is the Tasmanian Branch President of Soil Science Australia and is an accredited Building Services Design practitioner for the assessment and design of domestic onsite wastewater systems. She has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science Degree from the University of Tasmania and specialized in soil science and land evaluation.
Robyn has previously worked at Forestry Tasmania as a Forest Health Officer, investigating soil suitability and landform factors affecting tree health, and at DPIPWE as a Plant Pathologist, studying soil-borne plant diseases. She worked as a field assistant on a soil archaeological project in Northern Greece.
For the last few years, Robyn has run a monthly ‘Dirt Drinks’ session in Hobart which is a casual gathering of all interested soil folks to talk about earth science issues and education over a beverage (for details see the Facebook page: Soil Science in Tasmania or email Robyn).
Richards’ Statement of Capacity
Dr Richard Doyle is a highly experienced and qualified geologist and soil scientist. He has an honours degree in geology (sedimentology) and physical geography (Victoria University of Wellington), an MSc (awarded with Distinction) in geology specializing in soil mapping and erosion (VUW) and a PhD in soil science specializing in soil stratigraphy, erosion and geoarchaeology (UTAS).
Richard has served as a former President of Soil Science Australia and is a multi-award-winning teacher and researcher. He has also worked on major soil projects in Queensland, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Greece, Namibia, and the United States of America.
Dr Doyle has taught soil and earth science at tertiary level for over 23 years and supervised/co-supervised 20 Research Higher Degrees (PhD etc) projects and over 35 Honours and Masters (Coursework) research projects. He has completed several successful geomorphologic and NRM assessments for development proposals to councils across Tasmania. He has served on;
- Tasmanian Government wastewater reuse group for over five years (Environment Division of DPIPWE),
- Review of the Tasmanian Forest Practices Code Steep Country Sections
- Various NRM technical and assessment committees.
- Project reviews for the Australian Government (ACIAR)
- The Board of Certified Professional Soil Science (CPSS)
- Centre for Australian Forensic Soil Science (CFAFSS)
- Co-Founder of the E(ART)H Project -bringing Soil Science and Aboriginal Landscape stories together in artworks from ochre.
Richard was the inaugural President of the Tasmanian Branch of Soil Science Australia and was the Convener of the Joint NZ and Australian Soil Science Conference in Hobart 2012.
